Pregnancy is a big decision. It not only changes your life but also makes you responsible for a new life. Before taking such a life changing step, you should think thoroughly. Here are 5 things you should consider before getting pregnant:1. Are you emotionally ready to raise a child?
It is often said that a child gives birth to a mother. You should sit down and think whether you are ready to be ‘born’ as a mother or not. Do you think you are emotionally ready to raise a child? Being a mother is a 24/7 job and you can’t quit it either. So make sure you are fully ready before you make the decision of getting pregnant.
2. Are you financially capable of raising a child?
Raising a child involves a lot of cost too. From diapers to vaccinations, from education to proper child care – everything costs money. Whether you like it or not, this is a very practical question that you need to ask yourself before getting pregnant.
3. How will you manage your career?
Pregnancy changes a lot about your life including your career. Obviously you can expect a break from your career path. Though corporations provide maternity leave and support, still you need to consider how you’ll manage yourself professionally after becoming a mother. Would you take a break from your career to raise your child? Would you take help from your family to raise your child? Would you employ a nanny or choose a day care? All these questions are important because if you don’t think them through beforehand, then things can get quite overwhelming at a later stage.4. Do you have a husband/ boyfriend who can be a good father?
Single mothers do a great job at raising kids too but the father figure is very important for a child to have an emotionally healthy and holistic development. When you are thinking about getting pregnant, you should sit down and take a stock of your life. Do you think you are in a happy marriage or relationship – the one that can provide your child with a good role model in the form of a father? This is a very important thing to consider before you bring a new life into this world.
5. Is your lifestyle healthy enough for bringing up a child?
If you are alcoholic or take drugs, then you seriously need to sit and think about changing your lifestyle if you want to get pregnant. Your lifestyle should be such that it provides opportunities for healthy physical, social, emotional and psychological development of a child. Think about it before you get pregnant.
Giving birth to a child is easy: giving a good life to that child is not. So think deeply and act rationally before you consider getting pregnant.
As always, I welcome your thoughts and musings below… love ya__ CJ ..!!
